Book Description
Rob was a Social Worker, with a love of red wine and a diagnosis of Asperger's. He was struggling to keep his self-harm a secret and failing to rebuild his life after the breakdown of his marriage. There was also the small matter of 'the Voice'.
With blood dripping from his face, a trip to hospital culminated in his worst fear taking place - admission as a psychiatric patient. Over the next 9 weeks, Rob would discover a world of extreme honesty, raw emotion and unexpected humour.
Hilarious and heart-warming, The Asylum Diaries is Graham Old's first novel. Told with insight and compassion, this is a unique glimpse into one man's struggles with life on the edge.
Warning Contains strong language, adult themes and material likely to offend.

I thoroughly enjoyed this glimpse into what it must be like to have a mind that takes twists and turns without paying attention to signal indicators, traffic lights or coppers! Of course, when such intriguing writing is lined up with a protagonist who purportedly prefers predictable and manageable there results in a delightful skip in the reader's own mind...that feeling that you know something isn't quite right but you can't quite pin down what that is.I liked the dark humor and raw observations, finding myself chuckling and several times laughing out loud. One waxing by the hero over the potential benefits of having Tourette's Syndrome really had me grinning. The many colorful character descriptions were such that I wished a few of them had their own spin off story.
What a wonderful glimpse into the fascinating mind of Aspberger's; Of Madness and Folly is a book that reminds me of the value of being unique.
